- 这首歌的歌词最早来自与奥格登纳什（Ogden Nash）的童话诗《真正的龙》，讲述小女孩柏林达养了4个宠物：小猫、小狗、小老鼠和神龙。小猫、小狗、小老鼠嘲笑神龙胆小。而当真正的海盗船来的时候，它们都吓得到处乱躲，只有神龙挺身而出，吃掉海盗，救下了小主人……
- 当然歌词是进行了改编，事实上这首歌讲的是神龙Puff跟Jackie Paper的故事。歌词简单的理解一下就是整个故事：Puff是一头会喷火的魔龙，他一直住在海边的岩洞里，经常独自在薄雾弥漫的海中寂寞的游荡。一天有一个名叫Jackie的小男孩来到了海边，他不像普通人那么害怕Puff，还与Puff交上了朋友。从此以后他们就天天在一起玩耍，Puff还让Jackie骑在他的脖子上，威风凛凛地带着他四处游历。但他们毕竟属于不同的两个世界，Puff是神龙，他不会死不会老也不会长大，而Jackie却在一天天的成长着，他接触了更多的人和事，有了更多的朋友和自己的生活。Jackie越来越少出现在海边，Puff孤独地窝在岩洞里不再那么生龙活虎，失去朋友的他伤心地连身上的鳞片也开始片片剥落。
